eSign icons: unmoderated click test

Project description:

Replace an existing system that facilitates the process of electronically signing of 'deposit account', loan, and 'account maintenance' documents in the branch.

Project impact:

Enable Product team to confidently start the build of the new application based on knowledge that the user interface the Design team created is intuitive to end users.

Define the problem

Worked with stakeholders to define the problem space and decide what aspects of the overall experience is in an out of scope for this research. Established clear timelines based on the project team's needs and the scope of this research.

Problem Statement:

  • Assess if the new icons are intuitive to end users

2

Create study plan

Define project background, business objectives, research objectives, timeline, and specific questions to ask participants during the study. Work with design, product, and development stakeholders to validate the information in the test plan and ensure the stakeholder's key questions are addressed.

Research objectives:

  • Determine if end users are able to understand understand what a button will do if it only has the icon (rotate, view, print, download)

3

Recruit and schedule participants

Recruited 150 participants through the user zoom panel.

Participant demographics:

  • Mix of different ages

  • Work with document files on a weekly basis

  • Have used a pdf viewing application within the last 3 months

4

Run sessions

Users went through a series of click test complete with a calibration question to determine if they understood how to use the user interface to view a document, rotate an upside-down document, print a document, or download a document.

5

Analyze data

Results were scrubbed for speeders and cheaters.

Heat maps were used to determine if users were able to successfully complete the task.

6

Create presentation

Slide deck was created to share the insights from the study with the design, product, and development teams.

7

Present findings

Presented findings to stakeholders while allowing room for discussion of each key finding.

8

Follow-up

Met with design team to carry findings forward when design decisions were made by acting as the voice of the user in design meetings.
